Have you ever been for a massage and left more tense and frustrated than when you arrived? Are you looking for bodywork that will make a difference in your body?
This is what I can offer for you:
I see you as an individual with a uniquely you body.  My massages are not generic in anyway.  Each time you come to me I want to know what is going on, what you’re feeling in your body, and what you want to shift.  This is how you and I will work together.  I don’t break down techniques into price categories. I use them as tools to access the issues that you might be facing.  Whatever seems most appropriate, we will try it so that at the end of the session you feel the results. Why am I sometimes sore after a massage?
During a more therapeutic session we are potentially having to disrupt some long-term holding patterns in muscles.  As a result, the work can be deep, or intense and there might be some residual aches from the work that generally go away within 24 -48 hours.
What's the difference between relaxation and integrative massage?
If you’ve been to a spa before, you may have experienced what is often called a spa massage or relaxation massage.  Although they might specify the amount of pressure (deep tissue, Swedish, sports etc ) they are not advertising helping specific situations in the body.  This means that you will be treated with the same number of strokes or time on each part of your body, as anyone else.  My integrative massage is deliberate and defined in order to address specific areas in your body.  If you come in with a really tight neck, my guess is you want to leave with a loose neck.  So this would be the focus.  Pressure varies, techniques vary, and while it might be more intense during the massage, the after effects are worth it!
Do I need to get totally naked for the massage?
That depends.  I prefer to use oil so being able to access the skin is important, but I am also a skilled draper and will keep you covered with a sheet at all times unless I am working on a specific area.  The exposure is minimal.  In some cases people still prefer to leave their underwear on and that’s totally ok with me! I can work over the sheets as well.
Will I be bruised?
No! When a body is worked properly, unless you have ultra sensitive skin, we will warm the muscles up first before going deep.  This means that in almost every case, even if it feels really intense, your body is still open to the work.  My job is to listen to how much your body wants to take and to back off when it is resisting the work.  This is how we have a silent conversation throughout the session.
Do you normally talk in a massage?
I talk as little or as much as my client likes.  Some people like to go into a quiet space and zone out and we will be silent except for when I check in here and there.  Others are more comfortable talking or asking questions throughout.  Any way you are comfortable and we can do work together is the way we will do it.
Why do some points on the body hurt so much?
In our bodies we have chronic ways of storing our stress and tension.  Most of us do this through postural shifts and daily activity performed with suboptimal alignment.  When we continuously build up tension in the same muscle fibers, a trigger point can form.  This point, over time, and depending on it’s location, can refer pain to other areas of your body so that you find yourself wanting to treat symptoms, but having no idea what the cause is.  Trigger point therapy is an awesome and effective technique that is directed towards these points of holding and the release of these points can give a lot of relief.
I first started using Nura’s massage skills following breast cancer surgery in 2008. I was having considerable difficulty with the radiation treatments and regular massages from Nura helped me immensely to relax and face the daily treatments.  Recently, I was involved in a series of stressful situations that caused the muscles in my neck, shoulders, and back to become extremely painful.
